a unique blend of music and cultures within each amazing performance.
Features touches of the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa.
Embracing in a tight framework that marries classical
complexity with the freedom and playfulness of traditional Latin
Jazz, Rumba, Danzon, Cha Cha Cha. Di eVano string quartet was created
by bassist Irais B. Hierrezuelo in 2006, The Group performs pieces
ranging in time period, place of origin, and style, from J.S. Bach
to Emiliano Salvador, Buena Vista Social Club, Chick Corea.
With its endless array of possibilities, Di eVano
can bring a top-notch performance to any venue, whether it be a small
jazz club, or a concert hall stage show. Di eVano features four talented
and diverse musicians. Mayreni Morel from Dominican Republic, plays
violin bringing an intense Latin flavor to her melodies on tango,
rumba and salsa pieces, among others. Phakamani Pega from South Africa
also plays violin where he roots the group strongly in African rhythms
and harmonies. Kira Meade, a cellist from New York, contributes both
professional classical precision and passionate improvisational ability.
Finally, Irais B. Hierrezuelo, the bassist and founder, anchors the
group's sound and rhythm worth his deeply ingrained Cuban roots,
while constantly pushing the group into a new musical exploration
with his wide, eclectic choice of material and arrangements.
In 2006, Di eVano headlined at Ryles Jazz Club's "World
Wednesdays," a weekly showcase of the best world music in Boston.
The group was commemorated for the facinating show they performed.
Di eVano looks forward to returning to Ryles once again with its
unique sound. For an eclectic, exciting string quartet the likes
of which you've never heard before.
