Rogerio Souza Quartet
Here is a rare opportunity to hear 7-string guitarist Rogerio Souza,
from Rio de Janeiro, who is returning to Boston for the second time.
An award winner composer and arranger, he has performed with some of
the great artists in Brazilian popular music, including: Paulinho da
Viola, João Bosco, Ney Matogrosso, Ivan Lins, Elizeth Cardoso, Dona
Ivone Lara, Elsa Soares, Zélia Duncan, Leila Pinheiro, Baden Powell,
Salamandra, Paulo Moura, Guinga, Altamiro Carrilho, Cristóvão Bastos,
Raphael Rabello, Turibio Santos, and Época de Ouro. Producer of many
CDs, he has toured the US, Europe and South America. He is one of the
founding members of Brazils most innovative choro ensembles, the
group Nó em Pingo D'Água, and he is the co-editor of the Choro
Songbook vol. One.
Rogério Souza will share the stage with friend musicians Fernando
Brandão on flutes, Leonardo Lucini on bass (from Washington D.C.), and
a guest percussionist.
Among other styles, the concert will feature choros, maxixes, sambas
on original compositions and music by Baden Powell, Pixinguinha, Jacob
do Bandolim, and other prominent composers.
