Albino Mbie - "Mozambique Dance"

post-CD Release Party

Albino Mbie - Guitar, Vocals, Compositions
Jiri Nedoma - Piano
Roberto Giaquinto - Drums
Alex Londono - Double Bass

Albino Mbie has been invited to host his post CD release party for Mozambique Dance at Ryles Jazz club this Wednesday!

Mbie's music incorporates the music from Mozambique, rooted American Jazz influences and experiences with music from the world over, to blend diverse rhythmic patterns and musical concepts, creating a unique Moz-Jazz sound only found in his own original musical style. Now, with his just-released debut CD featuring his original title track, recorded on Jazz Revelation Records, a Berklee College of Music student-run label, for their 8th annual album in 2011 including his original Awusiwana, from the Berklee College of Music 2012 summer album, he brings it to life in his live performance.

Albino Mbie was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at 16 from a 5-liter can of oil, scrap wood, and strings made out of electrical cords. An active musician, Albino Mbie performs throughout the US, Africa, Europe and Mexico and has produced and recorded multiple projects in both Mozambique and the United States.

Beginning his studies at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, he made his way to the celebrated Berklee School of Music. Mbie became among the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee the prestigious African Scholars program.Soon after, Mbie was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program in 2009. Feeling the absence of his familiar Mozambican music and its deep traditions, Albino with the help of his mentors, renown African musicians Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, he began to bridge that gap.
