Greg Hopkins
Greg Hopkins has been performing in the New England area for the past twenty
years. Trumpeter, arranger/composer Hopkins played with Lonnie Smith, and Buddy
Rich. Reed man Bill Pierce toured with Art Blakey and Tony Williams. Guitarist
Mick Goodrick was with Jack Dejohnette and Steve Swallow. Gary Chaffee is a
noted teacher of many famous drummers. Together the group exhibits a mature,
hard hitting style.
"Greg Hopkins, the inspired trumpeter/composer who is one of Boston's
unappreciated jazz treasures, was listed as the leader of the nonet that appeared
at Scullers. On the band's debut CD Jazz! (Summit), he shares billing with pianist
Chuck Marohnic and tuba player Sam Pilaflan, Arizona-based musicians who (together
with drummer Dom Moio) traveled to New England for the group's East Coast debut."

Johnny Rodgers Band
with Brian Glassman, Danny Mallon, Joe Ravo and Johnny Rodgers
Nationally acclaimed award winning singer-songwriter-pianist, Johnny Rodgers and the Johnny Rodgers Bands music defies classification, blending the sophistication of jazz with the driving energy of pop, rock and roll. Show Business Weekly says Rodgers performs his own songs as a "combination of Elton John, Billy Joel and James Taylor all rolled into one," and noted New York critic Rex Reed "described him as "a finger popping pianist with range and style."
Rodgers' song "Home to Mendocino" was just declared a winner in the Billboard Magazine World Song Contest. The JRB recorded twelve of Johnnys self penned songs (including Mendocino) for the critically acclaimed debut album Box of Photographs, which featured Grammy Award winner Randy Brecker as guest artist on several tracks.
In between gigs and recording sessions with the Band, Johnny Rodgers is also currently touring Europe and North America with the legendary Oscar, Tony and Emmy Award winning superstar Liza Minnelli, with whom he will be filming her forthcoming TV special this summer in Vancouver.
Exploding on the music scene like a supernova, Daniel Fernandez of Miamis El Nuevo Herald raves "Rodgers group is excellent and I would not know where to start. &a composer and spectacular pianist, the singer is a true dynamo on stage, who jumps from one style to another with the ease of an expert trapezist: jazz, pop, rock" His versatility is uncommon and very authentic."

Darrell Nulisch
A first-class bluesman with more natural soul in reserve than many
singers can summon up at the peak of their powers, Darrell Nulisch
testifies with stirring authority on I Like It That Way, his second
Severn Records release.
Following up 1998's The Whole Truth, this strong release presents
the big-voiced Dallas native dipping into a varied soul-streaked
R&B bag. From the infectious opener, "You Tore My Playhouse
Down"--which he adapted from the Ann Peebles' classic "I'm
Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down"--to ebullient offerings like
"Getaway Place" and "Love Changes Things", he
mines a motherlode of deep-blue feeling on B.B. King's "Worried
Blues" and goes to church on the gospel-flavored original "Where
My Baby Is."
Elsewhere, Nulisch wraps his distinctive pipes around faithful covers
of Lee Shot Williams' "I Like Your Style" and Otis Redding's
"Trick Or Treat." He grooves on a jazzy, organ-fueled interpretation
of Otis Rush's "Mean Old World," reinterprets his own "After
All," which he had recorded 10 years ago with guitarist Ronnie
Earl, and showcases his blues harp chops on the rootsy shuffle, "Once
in a Lifetime."
"I've tried to show progression on all my records," says
Nulisch. "And I think this one shows growth in my writing style."
On this release, he is again working in tandem with longtime writing
partner Steve Gomes. "Steve and I both lean toward this soul
kind of thing. Also over the last few years I've gotten into listening
to more gospel and jazz, and I think that's reflected in some of
the music on this album." |

"Ojala is a very fine debut from an extremely talented singer, composer
and arranger(....) a unique, very attractive and extremely seductive recording"
-All About Jazz
Sofia Koutsovitis belongs to a new generation of musicians who imaginatively
explore the connection between jazz and contemporary music and the rich musical
traditions of South America. An active vocalist, composer and arranger, her
primary musical project to date, the Sofia Koutsovitis Group, is grounded in
traditional South American rhythms that merge organically with sophisticated
harmonies and exploratory improvisations. Singing in Spanish, Portuguese or
English, Sofia's voice is alternately graceful and authoritative in interpreting
her dynamic original compositions or her own innovative arrangements of pieces
by Latin American composers such as Silvio Rodriguez, Astor Piazolla, Paulinho
da Viola, and Chabuca Granda. Currently a resident of New York City, since making
the move in 2005, Sofia has become a very active member of the new Jazz and
Latin American music scene. She is the lead vocalist of several music projects
that involve Jazz, experimental music, tango, Afro-Peruvian, Afro-Colombian,
Brazilian and Argentine music collaborating with musicians and groups such as
Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, Geoffrey Keezer's Aurea, Aquiles Baez ,Lionel

Katie Viqueira
Directly from her native Buenos Aires, former Boston-based vocalist Katie Viqueira returns to Ryles for a rare night of Argentine music, featuring her latest blend of jazz-inflected contemporary Tango, Candombe, Milonga. Backed by pianist Nando Michelin, drummer Bertram Lehmann, and special guest guitarist Claudio Ragazzi, she sets out to trace her musical roots. Billed "a hot Tango star" by the Boston Globe, she has received the highest critical accolades for her performances.
"Originality, that you don't fall upon too often. Yes, there's the drama, mystery, tale and all else one would expect from the big country in the most southern part of South America, but this time it's different . . . pure fusion . . . world music that we all can come home to and enjoy . . ." - JAZZ ZINE
Katie Viqueira - voice . Nando Michelin - piano, arrangements .
Fernando Huergo - bass . Bertram Lehmann - percussion . Claudio Ragazzi - guitar |

by Field.

"They've pretty much modernized the traditional concept, and they've
spun it into a singular sound that's very unique and very vibrant.
They accelerated the norm. They went past the tried and true. They
managed to do it all with a very distinct musical persona." -
All About Jazz writer Glenn Astarita on NPR's Morning Edition |
