Natraj
The world-jazz ensemble Natraj celebrates 20 years of fusing Indian classical
music, West African music, and contemporary jazz. This program features special
guest Senegalese master drummer Lamine Touré on sabar, djembe, talking
drum, and taasu (rhythmic recitation). Touré has toured extensively in
Senegal, Europe, and North America, and was featured at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Join us for the debut performance of Requited,
a series of new songs by composer/pianist Bert Seager and best-selling novelist
Anita Diamant. A modern twist on the American Songbook, these pieces are both
fresh and hauntingly familiar. They create a provocative union of beautiful
and surprising melodies, harmonic density, and masterful storytelling. The recording
of Requited will be available later this year.
Rebecca
Shrimpton is hailed as a simply exquisite vocalist.

her voice raptures. (François Couture, All Music Guide)
Her CD, Madmans Moon, with guitarist Eric Hofbauer, garnered international
praise and made two Top Ten CDs of 2005 lists. She has appeared with such jazz
luminaries as Joe Lovano, Steve Lacy, George Russell, Ran Blake, and George
Lewis, and has recorded four critically acclaimed CDs with Bostons Jazz
Composers Alliance Orchestra. Rebecca has recordings on Rounder, Cadence, Red
Toucan, Innova, and Creative Nation Music (CNM).
Bert Seager,
composer and pianist, has been a leading player on the jazz scene in Boston
since 1981. His eight internationally released compact discs have won him unanimous
critical acclaim from the New York Times, Keyboard Magazine, The Boston
Globe and many other publications.
Anita Diamant
is the author of eleven books, including the internationally best-selling novel,
The Red Tent. She is also a popular columnist for The Boston Globe.
Her collaboration as lyricist with composer Bert Seager begins a new chapter
in her writing life. |

Earthsound
Earthsound is a Boston-based project that showcases original world
music and jazz alongside recorded environmental sounds. The music
draws upon the sounds and styles of diverse composers such as Duke
Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Thelonious Monk, Maurice Ravel,
and Igor Stravinsky. Improvised pieces performed over recorded soundscapes
of natural settings complement the unique sound of the ensemble.

Florencia Gonzalez Big Band
Saxophonist Florencia Gonzalez puts together a 24 piece Big Band
in which she integrates Tango, Candombe and other rhythms brought
from South America to the Big Band formation.
This World Music Big Band incorporates extra woodwind colors, such
as flutes and clarinets, and other instruments from the classical
orchestra, such as French horn, and of course, some candombe drums
here and there, all which bring the traditional big band to another
level.
