Music that combines the passion of the East with the contemporary energy of the West. The Marc Rossi Group will perform music from their critically acclaimed 2008 release Hidden Mandala and their new cd in progress, Jazz Impressions of a Kriti. Drawing on influences from jazz masters, Indian music, Latin music, and much more.

Marc integrates the flavors and sounds of far continents with the vibrancy and energy of contemporary jazz. The result is music-making that creates a higher unity on many levels and is not to be missed. Marc is dedicating this evening to the renowned composer George Russell - an important mentor in Marc's musical evolution, who we lost recently. On this gig, Marc and the group will be joined by special guests Stan Strickland--Afro-Asian vocals and kalimba, and Pradeep Shukla--Hindustani vocals.

Returning to Ryles to release their second CD, The Hereness and Nowness of Things, ESTHEMA has once again blurred the boundaries between Eastern and Western music. This time around, their exploration brought them down paths they had not yet ventured. Eastern Dance explores the beautiful major sounding Eastern maqam, Houzam, Illusion of Truth's main groove is based on the Eastern Çiftetelli (Tsifteteli), and Arrhythmia is based on the Anatolian Zeybek dance (or Zeibekiko).

Boston-based World Fusion ensemble ESTHEMA creates their unique sound by fusing elements from the traditional music of the Eastern European Balkan region and the Near/Middle East with Progressive Rock and various styles of Jazz. The five musicians that shape the sound of ESTHEMA bring together both Western and Eastern influences, instruments, and musical concepts. As people, the individuals in ESTHEMA come from very different places with very different experiences. As musicians, they bring those places and experiences together into one musical setting.

ESTHEMA's first CD, A P A R T FROM THE REST (released July 2007) was voted as one of the Top 25 independent recordings of 2008 at Indie-Music.com. All the compositions are laced with elements of Eastern and Western music: Western Jazz improvisation and Eastern Taxims, Latin Samba and Eastern Kasilama, Western modes, Aeolian and Phrygian and Eastern scales/maqams, Hijaz, Sabah, and Nihavent. With the success of A P A R T FROM THE REST and the release of The Hereness and Nowness of Things, ESTHEMA's efforts will concentrate on building a stronger domestic and international fan base through performances, distribution of CDs and mp3s, radio play, CD reviews, and more performances.

Copal is a melding of string fusion with world beat and electronic influences. Boston/NYC-based electronic string fusion band inspires audiences with deep dance beats and original melodies rooted in traditions, Copal creates soundscapes, interweaving string melodies inspired by Middle Eastern rhythms, dark Nordic songs, Hungarian riffs, Spanish-flavored cadences and harmonies to paint pictures and landscapes. Accompanied by tribal-style belly dancing, the fusion is taken to a new level, traveling from one end of the globe to another in an eclectic modern mix. The full band features violin, cello, vocals, synth pads, bass guitar, doumbek, drum kit, and belly dancers. Like lucid dreams, the sounds of Copal will carry your spirit away.
